Manchester United is among a group of clubs interested in signing Bologna midfielder Matthias Svanberg.

Ralf Rangnick will end his tenure as interim manager at the end of the season and move upstairs to take up a consulting role with the club for the next two years. Manchester United have begun the search for a permanent coach to replace sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with both Ajax coach Erik ten Hag and Paris Saint-Germain player Mauricio Pochettino each. Top for the job.
Regardless of who becomes the next coach, the Red Devils are expected to be in the market for a midfielder. Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard’s contracts expired in June and are likely to leave as free agents, while Nemanja Matic has passed his prime at the age of 33.

Despite spending huge sums of money to strengthen their midfield squad, it is clear that Man United have failed to address their problems for some time now. Thus, it is understood that the club is targeting a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder this summer.
Matthias Svanberg has been a mainstay in the Bologna side under Sinisa Mihajlovic, starting 25 of his 28 league games this season. A central midfielder by commerce, the Swede can play as a number 6 or in a forward position, and this versatility, combined with his passing ability, energy, work rate and talent for goal-scoring, makes him a highly-rated talent in Serie A football.
At Man United, Svanberg could come on as a replacement for Pogba and add some balance to the side. At the age of 23, the Bologna star had his best footballing years ahead and could help solve some issues in Man United’s midfield, while adding more depth to help compete across various competitions.
With the Sweden international contracted in 2023, the Red Devils should definitely try to sign him for a modest fee in the upcoming transfer window.
