BBC Sport Critic Garth Crooks believes Mohamed Salah is not Liverpool’s best player despite Al-Masry’s exploits at the club.

Salah recently received the Football Writers Association (FWA) award for the best player in the league for the season. The forward has led Liverpool to the quartet this season, contributing 44 goals in 45 games (35 of 32 in the league).

But Salah drew in Liverpool’s last match against Newcastle United. Naby Keita came to the rescue of the Reds to clinch the three points and take them away from the difficult St James’ Park.

Crooks, speaking in a BBC studio after the match, praised Keita and Virgil van Dijk, claiming the defender deserved the award more than Salah. With Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defense and paired with Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, Liverpool have kept 21 clean games this season.

scammers said BBC SportAnother clean sheet and another fun day in the office for Virgil van Dijk. I thought this was an extraordinary performance for Liverpool.

“Having played Villarreal in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night, they traveled to Newcastle at 12:30pm at St James’ Park three days later and came away with a win – considering the level Newcastle were on – which was fantastic.

For Van Dijk, you can read in Crooks of the Matter why I think the Football Writers Association picked the wrong Liverpool player for their Player of the Year award.

Liverpool offers to extend James Milner’s contract amid rumors of midfielder’s retirement

Liverpool have offered veteran midfielder James Milner to extend his current contract for another year.

Milner joined the Reds from Manchester City in 2015 and has served them in various roles since then. Milner, the ultimate companion man, was part of Liverpool’s development into a force in English and European football under Jurgen Klopp.

He was expected to leave Anfield in the summer when his contract expired. However, the Reds are looking to retain the Leeds United academy product for another season and have offered him a one-year extension.

This will be the second extension at Anfield in two years for the veteran who has represented England 61 times in his career. He signed an extension in August 2020 to keep him until June 2022, and an extension is now scheduled for his relationship with Liverpool, whose fans have come to love and appreciate their silent leader.

Daily Telegraph Reports have stated that Milner is certain to sign the extension.
