Leao Strike Salvages Victory for Rossoneri

Milan secured the crucial three points today with a 1-0 home win against Fiorentina. A late goal by Rafael Leao looked the part Rossoneri get the win. However, they had a few scoring chances throughout the game but failed to capitalize.

Nonetheless, it’s a crucial victory for Milan in their quest to win the Scudetto this season.

Starting XI: Milan unchanged, Fiorentina make six changes

Milan have remained unchanged since defeating Lazio in Rome, while Fiorentina made five changes after the crushing home defeat by Udinese. Igor Julio replaced Lucas Martinez Quarta while Lorenzo Venuti started in place of Alvaro Odriozola.

In midfield, Sofyan Amrabat and Youssef Maleh were preferred to Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Torreira, while Arthur Cabral and Riccardo Saponara replaced Krzysztof Piatek and Riccardo Sottil respectively.

Neither side can take their chances

Both sides tried to attack, with Fiorentina having a good chance of scoring through Igor, whose shot went wide. Milan’s first good chance came from Theo Hernandez, but the Frenchman’s shot hit the side netting. That Rossoneri had another good chance when Franck Kessie played a brilliant pass to Olivier Giroud. However, the former Arsenal shot hit his shot wide.

Fiorentina’s defense was often tested, but they never shied away from taking the initiative in attack. Riccardo Saponara made things difficult for the Milan defense and he shot at goal but Mike Maignan managed to save him.

The hosts attacked hard as the first half progressed, but the Fiorentina defense was rigid.

Leao seals victory for Milan

Fiorentina made a substitution at the break with Martinez Quarta replacing Venuti. Milan had a great chance to open the scoring after a brilliant move between Brahim Diaz and Giroud. But Rafal Leao shot from close range and hit his shot over the bar. Kessie had a chance to score shortly after, but his shot was saved by Terracciano.

Milan brought fresh legs with Rade Krunic and Ante Rebic. They later brought in the experienced Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Fiorentina had a very good opportunity to score when Cristiano Biraghi played a cross towards Cabral. However, the latter’s header produced a great save from Maignan.

Finally, thanks to a big mistake by Terracciano, Milan got the goal they were hoping for. The Fiorentina goalkeeper sent the ball to Leao, who found the net to open the scoring for his team.

La Viola tried hard to find an equalizer but couldn’t and Milan took the three points.

Stefano Pioli will be happy for his team’s victory but at the same time he will be worried about the number of chances they failed to take. Milan need to be more sober if they want to win their remaining games and win Serie A.

What’s next for Milan and Fiorentina

Milan next travel to Verona to take on him Mastini next Sunday. Igor Tudor’s side have lost just one of their last six home games so they should not be taken lightly, especially when Giovanni Simeone is present. Fiorentina host Jose Mourinho’s Roma and it will be a daunting task for them to win.
