Inter sauntered into another comprehensive 3-1 home win over in-form Roma to regain control at the Serie A summit ahead of Milan’s trip to Lazio on Sunday. After beating the Rossoneri 3-0 in the midweek Coppa Italia, Simone Inzaghi’s men delivered another high-profile performance to finish off Jose Mourinho’s high-flyers.
Denzel Dumfries opened the scoring just after half an hour after a quicksilver run past the Roma defense to set the tone for another entertaining evening. Marcelo Brozovic doubled the lead towards the end of the first half and gave Inter a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.
Lautaro Martinez made the game clear just seven minutes into the second half. Roma responded through Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 85th minute but it did little to ease the pain in the traveling camp.
After four wins in Serie A, Inter are back at the top of the table. At least for the short term, as Milan could dethrone them tomorrow night at the Stadio Olimpico by beating Lazio.
However, Inter have peaked at the best possible moment as the scudetto race heats up ahead of the season finale. Inzaghi’s men outclassed Roma, who went into the game on Saturday after 12 league games unbeaten.
Roma’s attempt to overtake Juventus into fourth was a huge blow but Mourinho admits ‘Inter are stronger at the moment’.
“They have the strongest players in the league. There are so many “animals”. you are really strong‘ he said in the post-game interview, as relayed by TUTTMercatoWEB.
Mourinho reiterated his love for Inter and admitted he cheers for them in the Scudetto enema.
“I love Inter and they love me. I can say that I want the Nerazzurri to win the championship.“
