Incoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl has announced that Erling Haaland will decide his future with Borussia Dortmund next week.
Haaland has been exceptional since joining Dortmund in 2020. He has scored 28 goals in 29 games this season after scoring 41 goals in 41 last season.
The Norwegian has been the subject of much transfer speculation. The last few months have seen his biggest signing battle when it was announced that the £64m release clause would be triggered.
Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus have all reached out to his late former agent Mino Raiola, whose demands helped disqualify most of the contenders.
Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester City were the last teams to hold out, and City have been touted over the past two months as prime candidates to sign the 21-year-old.
Borussia Dortmund also hope to keep the striker until at least his contract expires next season.
In all of it, it seems that Haaland has not chosen his next destination, and Kehl, who will officially take charge of Michael Zorc in the summer, revealed that Haaland will make his official announcement next week, when the German League concludes.
“[I expect] Clarity next week STAHLWERK Doppelpass on SPORT1. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues in the end.”
Should Haaland leave, Dortmund already have a replacement in line behind him at Red Bull Salzburg, Karim Adeyemi. Kiel also commented on the German’s signing, saying this week will provide some clarity over the signing of the young striker.
Meanwhile, Haaland was underestimated in favor of Kylian Mbappe in terms of footballing ability by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
Both players have been touted as the next big rivalry, as has Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who have been playing soccer on the strings for the past decade and a half.
Mbappe has already won several titles with the World Cup under his belt, but Haaland has not achieved much in this regard, only winning the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in 2020/21 to add to two Austrian League titles and one Austrian Cup. .
While Haaland could land at Manchester City and improve significantly in his quest to become the greatest club in England, Mbappe is preparing to join Real Madrid in the summer. Many believe that these moves will officially start their rivalry.
Pique sparked controversy over who is better, claiming that Mbappe is better because he is a more complete player. Barcelona defender said on Sky Sports’ overlap“They are two of the best players at the moment. They are very young and both have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or for sure.
“I think Haaland is more than just a striker, very strong and scores a lot. Mbappe is a more complete player – he can play as a winger or a striker. I didn’t have the opportunity to play against Haaland, I played against Mbappe. It’s hard to choose.”
