Francesco Acerbi wrote a letter to Lazio fans to address his mistake and his reaction against Milan: “It’s been a roller coaster of emotions and frustrations, so I decided to take my time to find the right words to share my thoughts and feelings. I don’t expect them to be co-signed, but at least understood.”
The defense attorney wrote to Corriere dello Sport: “Unfortunately, in the last few months I have found myself in an unexpected situation. I feel alone and it hurts me. I don’t want to point fingers but it affected me on and off the pitch. Despite this, my family gives me the poise and composure to face things head-on. The stereotype is that footballers are immune to emotional swings because of their job and salary, but that’s not the case.”
Acerbi reacted to the attacks of the Lazio faithful: “I’ve never shied away from my responsibilities, as a man and as a player. I’ve always accepted the criticism, honors and commitments that are part of the game. However, I cannot have any conjecture against my integrity and commitment to this team. I read absurd things after the Milan game that I can’t stand. Having to defend my professionalism hurts me deeply.”
“I’m neither perfect nor a robot, but I’m a serious and loyal person. That is not debatable. I don’t forget every moment of my time with the Biancocelesti. I received support, appreciation and affection and became a captain, and that will stay with me forever. My future is the next game with Lazio. I hope we can turn the page together and end the season in the best possible way, with dignity and mutual respect.”
